Kampala to Kigali Standard Gauge Railway (SGR)

The aim of the project is to improve and optimise passenger and freight transport within the East African region by developing a harmonised Standard Gauge Railway Line which will eventually link to the SGR in Kenya and in Tanzania to create a high-speed loop around Lake Victoria. The KampalaKigali SGR is divided into two lots:

• Lot 1: Kampala-Mirama Hills with spurs to Kasese/Mpondwe and Muko with an estimated length of 900 km
• Lot 2: Mirama Hills-Kigali with an estimated length of 200km

• Traffic and Market study
• Route identification, selection, and feasibility studies
• Geological and Geotechnical analysis
• Environmental and Social Impact Study
• Preliminary Engineering Designs
• Economic and Financial analysis
• Analysis of the legal, institutional, and regulatory framework
• Investment study and feasibility studies for PPP
