Feasibility Study and Preliminary Engineering Design of the Kampala to Kigali
Standard Gauge Railway Line (1,100 km)

The aim of the project is to improve and optimise passenger and freight transport within the East African region by developing a harmonised Standard Gauge Railway Line which will eventually link to the SGR in Kenya and in Tanzania to create a high-speed loop around Lake Victoria. The KampalaKigali SGR is divided into two lots:

  • Lot 1: Kampala-Mirama Hills with spurs to Kasese/Mpondwe and Muko with an estimated length of 900 km
  • Lot 2: Mirama Hills-Kigali with an estimated length of 200km
