Design and Supervision of the Itare Dam Water Supply Project

Itare Dam is one of the flagship projects of the Government of Kenya and will provide an additional 100,000 m3/day drinking water to the City of Nakuru and surroudings (population of 1.8 million). The project includes a 56m high rock fill dam with asphalt core, a bulk water transfer tunnel of 14.5 km, a bulk water transfer pipeline of 110 km (DN 800 to 1300 steel pipes), water treatment works of 105,000 m3/day, 35 km of bulk distribution mains of DN 300 to 900 as well as treated water reservoirs of 3,000 m3 and 5,000 m3. We were engaged by Rift Valley Water Development Agency first to carry out a feasibility study and preliminary design in 2012-2013, then to prepare detailed design and tender documents for international competitive bidding (2015-2016), and finally for the construction supervision of the project itself (2018-2022).
